From Tom Ligare, for the families who requested The Power of Zero — and anyone else deciding what comes next.
Know Exactly Where Your Retirement Stands — In Writing, In Hand, In 60 Days.
When Tom Ligare’s process ends, you’re holding something: a bound, personal Guide containing your goals, your risks, every strategy he weighed for your situation, and exactly what he recommends.
Planners price this work at $2,500. Yours is free, and it’s yours to keep, whatever you decide.
Financial Guide
The complete written record of your financial picture — every analysis, strategy, and recommendation from your 60-day engagement.
Truly Free — No Catch
No fee at any step of the process, no invoice at the end, no strings. Tom makes his living when families choose to implement with him. Whether you do is entirely your call — the Guide is yours either way.
Yours to Keep
Take it to another advisor, your attorney, or your CPA. It’s a complete record of the analysis — built for your benefit, not as a sales tool.
Private and Confidential
What you share stays inside your engagement. We never sell your information and we never rent it to anyone. If your case calls for an attorney, a CPA, or an insurance specialist, we tell you who they are and why before we bring them in.
What Clients Say About the Process
Two clients, in their own words, published on nppss.com. Each describes their own situation. What a Guide finds for your family will be different.
“NPPSS identified areas of concern I was unaware of. I changed my retirement plan with the new information, which will make a significant difference later. It will save thousands of dollars in taxes. I recommend taking the time to go through the process.”
“I’m like most people — I don’t pay attention to retirement because it’s in the future. I’m glad I took a few minutes to understand what could happen and the potential cost. I am glad to have put a plan in place while I am young. It takes the worry away.”
A Complete Written Record of Your Plan

A relaxed conversation with Tom to see whether NPPSS is a fit for your family. No preparation needed, nothing to bring, no cost. If it’s not a fit, you’ll know inside 30 minutes.
Schedule My Free 30-Minute CallYour First Working Session
We meet for about 30 minutes to go through your goals, your family, and where things stand today. The 60-day clock starts here.
Your NPPSS Wealth Assessment & Baseline
You fill out our Wealth Assessment — the foundation every step after this is built on. It takes about 30 minutes, and you can answer from what you already know. If we need anything further, we’ll ask for it later. From your answers we build your current state analysis and Five Risks assessment.
Strategy Development
We model strategies across all three NPPSS pillars — executive benefits, charitable giving, estate and wealth transfer — and draft initial recommendations.
Review Meetings & Refinement
Two to three working sessions to walk through draft recommendations, ask questions, refine the plan, and confirm it.
Your Guide Is Delivered — And the Decision Is Yours
Your finished, bound Guide is delivered by hand or by mail, with a digital copy. From there, you decide whether to engage NPPSS for implementation. Either way, the Guide is yours to keep.
Who Builds Your Guide
Before founding NPPSS, Tom spent twenty-seven years as a State Farm agent, consistently ranked in the top 1% of agents nationwide, serving roughly four thousand clients across Utah and California.
He has served as Executive Director of the Ernest Brooks Foundation, Personnel Director at Park City Ski Resort, board chair at two Chambers of Commerce, and International Chair for Rotary — which is where the nonprofit and charitable-giving side of the practice comes from.
He holds the Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy designations from The American College of Financial Services. He takes every discovery call himself.
Our Clients Deserve More Than Just a Conversation.
Financial planning is one of the most personal conversations a family will ever have. Yet most families walk away from “free consultations” with nothing tangible — no record of what was discussed, no documentation of the reasoning, no way to bring another advisor up to speed.
We built the Retirement Financial Guide because we think that’s wrong. We start with the risks, not the products — and the serious work of understanding a family’s financial picture deserves a serious document. We give it away because a serious document builds trust the way a pitch never can.
If, at the end of 60 days, you decide we’re not the right fit — we’d rather have given you a genuinely useful document and your honest decision than another conversation you’d forget by Friday.
Common Questions
Is the Guide really free? What’s the catch?
Really free. There is no charge at any step, no bill at the end, no obligation, and no expiration. Here’s the honest business logic: Tom makes his living when families choose to implement strategies with him, and families who go through this process are better-informed, better-prepared clients. Many choose to engage; some don’t. Either way, the Guide is yours. That’s the whole model.
What happens on the discovery call?
Thirty relaxed minutes with Tom. He’ll ask what’s on your mind about retirement and your family — and answer any questions about how NPPSS works. There’s nothing to prepare and nothing to bring. If it’s a fit, you schedule the Day 1 discovery meeting and the 60-day Guide process begins. If it’s not, you’ll both know quickly — no hard feelings.
Does this end with someone selling me a product?
No one sells you anything during the 60 days. Your Guide lists every strategy considered for your situation — including the ones ruled out, and why. You are welcome to take the finished document to your own advisor, attorney or CPA before deciding anything. Whether you implement any of it with Tom is entirely your call at the end.
Why $2,500 as the stated value?
Two things set it. Written retirement plans of this scope are commonly priced between $2,500 and $7,500. And your Guide takes 30 to 48 hours of senior advisor time, which bills at $300 to $500 an hour elsewhere. We chose the bottom of that range on purpose.
What if I decide not to work with NPPSS?
The Guide is still yours. Take it to another advisor, an attorney, or your CPA — they’ll have a complete record of the analysis to work from. We don’t follow up with pressure. If your situation changes later and you’d like to revisit, you’re welcome to call.
Who is this for?
Retirees, and people getting close to it. Also nonprofit executives and families with charitable plans, whom Tom has worked with for decades through NPPSS. If you’re looking for a quick recommendation, we’re not your firm. If you want documentation, reasoning, and a comprehensive record of the strategy behind any recommendation that affects your family — this is built for you.
I read The Power of Zero — is this the same material?
No. The Power of Zero makes the general case. Your Guide applies them to your accounts, your tax position, and your family — with recommendations written for one household: yours. The book was printed for thousands of readers. Your Guide has an audience of one.
What if I already have a financial advisor?
That’s fine, and common. Many families bring NPPSS in for a specific question — charitable giving, executive benefits, estate strategy — alongside an existing advisor. The Guide is designed to be useful to your other professionals, not to displace them.
How much of my time does the full process take?
Less than most people expect. The first call is 30 minutes. If you move forward, the first working session is about 30 minutes, the Wealth Assessment takes about 30 minutes to fill out, and there are two or three working sessions across the 60 days. You don’t need to gather documents to get started. The rest of the work is ours.
